MEET DOLLY...

Helloooo on yet another beautiful day in Cornwall!!!  Hope you are all using sunscreen & wearing hats???

For her 3rd birthday I made my sister a rag doll out of bits of old fabric my Mum & I had collected (Mum was an avid sewer so there was loads to choose from hehe)  I can imagine you all doing your sums now hahaha My sister was born when I was 16 haha!  Now said sister adored that doll...even when it fell apart :(  Anyhow....now that her little Millie is coming up to her 3rd birthday she asked me to make another for her.  oooooo  got excited by that and my head was buzzing with ideas for updating the doll.....but noooooo.....she wanted it to be a 'twin' to the original.....noooooooo!!!!

I sooo wanted to do piercings and tattoos.....multi-coloured hair and girly bling...yet alone go wild with some arty stuff, would have been good eh???  Never mind, I have done as she has asked.....meet dolly...

She stands about 2feet and has 'joints' at her knees & elbows.  Sis chose the dress fabric from my store..it has a deep frill round the neck.  She has a lacey petticoat and the required lacy bloomers...well she has to have knickers on doesn't she hahaha!!!  I made the hair curly by knitting up some wool, washing it & then unravelling again!  She has felt eyes though I was itching to embroider the whole face and I used some pink chalk on her cheeks...though it looks muddy in the photo.

She has no name as yet...any ideas???  Thank you for taking a look today, HUGS & SUNSHINE to you all XXX

Aaawww Karen she's so sweet, Millie will love her. I really think you need to make yourself one now so you can do a modern one with all the bits you want.
As for a name, that would involve thinking!! xxx

She's adorable Karen, love the lacy bloomers and curly hair! I reckon whatever name we chose for her would be overruled by Milly (who's likely to call her "Dolly" or something equally appostie, I reckon)!

Perfect dolly for a three year old. Make the one with the piercings for yourself Karen - you know you want to lol! I must dig out my doll 'Rebecca' that my mum made me when I was 11 and let you see(quite old for getting a rag doll) but then she has survived into her 40s ha ha!

Love the rag doll Karen - its one of those things I have always wanted to make. Even got the material and cut out the body, etc. Just never got round to putting it all together. Abi is too old for it now, lol!

Your doll is beautiful Karen :o) I thought I would just pop in and say hi as I'm sitting next to you in Carole's classroom. I haven't started my book yet as I was late joining and Bea and I are just sitting here smiling and hoping nobody will notice we need to get going ;o)

We come down to St Ives every year is that anywhere near you? We'll be down again at the end of September this year.

Karen, she looks lovely and I'm so glad you amanaged to stick to the "trad" rag doll look for her - but give it a few years and I bet Millie would love a punked-up version!
I used to make rag dolls - must have made 100's of the darn things. The pattern I used had a frilly pinny over the dress - I (mostly) enjoyed making them!

Hi Karen, I haven't found any forum yet over at Carole's classroom but I think you can just chip in with a comment as you normally would on any blog. I'm trying to not be noticed until I get started! lol I have painted some papers with Redbush tea bags so that's a start.

What a Beautiful Rag Doll, and a great story to Karen thanks for sharing it with us, you make such lovely things with material, as for a name for Dolly Daisy, Suzie, Blossom
just a few, but little Millie will love her and will most likely choose a name herself for Dolly take care
